July 1, 1991, a Day that Will Live in American Greatness
Thirty years ago today, President George H. W. Bush, whom I had the honor of serving in White House Counsel’s Office, announced a step forward for America, for the law, an for an understanding of why courage matters. A high-tech lynching would not be enough to stop it.
Justice Thomas owes me nothing, and it’s therefore a mark of his graciousness and generosity that he has invited the students in several of my Georgetown Law seminars to meet and speak with him at length in his chambers. That’s the kind of man he is. My colleague in WHCO, Mark Paoletta, remembers that day in 1991.
30 years ago today, President Bush nominated Clarence Thomas to the U.S. Supreme Court. Justice Thomas is an American hero and our greatest Justice. As he said 30 years ago today, “Only in America.” Watch Thomas’ beautiful and heartfelt remarks on July 1, 1991. pic.twitter.com/WbjBcjC7qO
