The press release says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Luigi Mangione\u2019s murder of Brian Thompson \u2014 an innocent man and father of two young children \u2014 was a premeditated, cold-blooded assassination that shocked America. After careful consideration, I have directed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty in this case as we carry out President Trump\u2019s agenda to stop violent crime and Make America Safe Again.&#8221;<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 As alleged, Luigi Mangione stalked and murdered UnitedHealthcare executive Brian Thompson on Dec. 4, 2024. The murder was an act of political violence. Mangione\u2019s actions involved substantial planning and premeditation and because the murder took place in public with bystanders nearby, may have posed grave risk of death to additional persons.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Following federal murder charges handed down on Dec. 19, 2024, Attorney General Bondi has now directed Acting U.S. Attorney Matthew Podolsky to seek the death penalty in this case.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 This is in line with Attorney General Bondi\u2019s Day One Memo as Attorney General entitled <em>Reviving The Federal Death Penalty And Lifting The Moratorium On Federal Executions<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The WSJ has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/us-news\/law\/luigi-mangione-death-penalty-united-health-brian-thompson-killing-6f90f70a?st=9RhdFR&amp;reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink\">this story<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has decided to seek the death penalty for Luigi Mangione.
