But New Yorkers who lead ordinary lives have a different view.\u00a0 Asked about the prospect of abolishing the police, the response made up in common sense what it lacked academic refinement:\u00a0 “That would be suicide.”<\/p>\n

Ami Horowitz, a documentary filmmaker and director of Fox News\u2019 \u201cAmi on the Streets,\u201d decided to ask white liberals in New York City what they thought of the idea of abolishing the police. He then asked black residents of East Harlem for their opinions on the matter. His video of the two groups\u2019 answers shows striking differences.<\/p>\n

When Horowitz asked white New Yorkers about abolishing the police, answers included:<\/p>\n

\u201cAbsolutely.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re monsters.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPolicing in this country is about keeping black people down.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Then Horowitz interviewed East Harlem residents. Here is what they thought of white leftists\u2019 opinions on abolishing police:<\/p>\n

\u201cI think they\u2019re full of crap.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think they\u2019re being somewhat ignorant.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAbolishing the NYPD? That would be suicide.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

One East Harlem resident spoke of how his 8-year-old son wants to be a police officer and he was encouraging him. Another black resident mentioned she had relatives who were police officers and she respected them.<\/p>\n

\u201cI support the police. I don\u2019t support police brutality, of course. But I support the police,\u201d she said. In other words, she understood nuance. The government can make helpful reforms without destroying a vital system.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
