{"id":1593,"date":"2020-07-10T11:49:56","date_gmt":"2020-07-10T18:49:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/?p=1593"},"modified":"2020-07-24T10:33:58","modified_gmt":"2020-07-24T17:33:58","slug":"the-major-media-spin-on-rising-crime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/?p=1593","title":{"rendered":"The Major Media Spin on Rising Crime"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While many local papers, television and radio news broadcasts have been reporting widespread increases in violent crime in most large U.S. cities this year, the focus of the national media has been on the dominant issues of the liberal narrative.\u00a0 These include systemic racism, particularly in law enforcement, horror stories about the pandemic, particularly in states where Republican Governors have ended lockdowns, and endless criticism of the President and anyone who supports him.\u00a0 Yesterday NBC news broke ranks, and actually <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/gun-violence-surging-cities-hitting-communities-color-hardest-n1233269\">reported<\/a> on the spike in shootings, but still managed to spin it to fit the narrative.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The story by Safia Samee Ali, noted that 1,500 people have been shot in Chicago, nearly 900 in Philadelphia and over 500 in New York City.\u00a0 All dramatic increases compared to last year.\u00a0 Most of the victims were black with Hispanics a distant second.\u00a0 What wasn&#8217;t reported was that the overwhelming majority of the shooters were the same race as their victims.\u00a0 The story cites a 2016 HUD study finding that predominantly black neighborhoods averaged 5 times as many violent crimes as white neighborhoods.\u00a0 Logically, these are the neighborhoods where more aggressive policing would be a good idea.\u00a0 But the expert NBC chose to interview thinks otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Webster of the John Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research cites structural racism and barriers to opportunities as causes for the violence.\u00a0 He said that mistrust of police after the George Floyd killing had made blacks less inclined to call 911.\u00a0 &#8220;To reduce this violence we are going to have to come up with policing models and public safety models that extend beyond police those communities feel invested in and trust,&#8221; Webster concluded. \u00a0\u00a0 What in the hell is he talking about?<\/p>\n<p>New York, Philadelphia and Chicago, along with other cities with dramatic spikes in violent crime this year including Detroit, Baltimore, Los Angeles, Seattle, Houston, and Minneapolis all have something in common.\u00a0 They have all ordered their police to end proactive, broken-windows style law enforcement, they have all embraced &#8220;criminal justice reform&#8221;
