Salvador Cienfuegos, who served as defense minister from 2012 to 2018 in President Enrique Pe\u00f1a Nieto\u2019s administration and led the army\u2019s war on drug cartels. U.S. agents <a class=\"icon none\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/former-mexican-defense-minister-arrested-in-u-s-at-dea-request-11602816474?mod=searchresults&amp;page=1&amp;pos=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">arrested the retired general<\/a> at Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday as he arrived with his family.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n<blockquote><p>Gen. Cienfuegos, 72, is the highest-ranking Mexican official ever charged with drug-related corruption.
