{"id":2412,"date":"2020-11-19T15:46:06","date_gmt":"2020-11-19T23:46:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/?p=2412"},"modified":"2020-11-19T15:46:06","modified_gmt":"2020-11-19T23:46:06","slug":"federal-judge-blocks-murderers-execution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/?p=2412","title":{"rendered":"Federal Judge Blocks Murderer&#8217;s Execution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A DC District judge stayed the federal execution of rapist\/murderer Orlando Hall hours before he was scheduled to be put to death today.\u00a0 The Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/dfw.cbslocal.com\/2020\/11\/19\/judge-halts-federal-execution-of-inmate-orlando-hall-who-kidnapped-raped-and-buried-north-texas-teen-lisa-rene-alive\/\">reports<\/a> that in her ruling District Judge Tanya Chutkan, a former public defender appointed to the bench by President Obama, was &#8220;deeply concerned&#8221; about the lethal injection Hall was to receive, which she concludes &#8220;violates federal law.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The 1998 <a href=\"https:\/\/caselaw.findlaw.com\/us-5th-circuit\/1396991.html\">decision<\/a> by Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals affirming Hall&#8217;s conviction and death sentence describes a brutal crime.\u00a0 Hall was a Arkansas drug dealer who traveled to Dallas with two accomplices on September 21, 1998 to buy some marijuana.\u00a0 When the sellers took Hall&#8217;s $4,700 and skipped out without delivering the drugs, Hall sought revenge.\u00a0 Three days later, they broke into the drug supplier&#8217;s apartment and found him gone, but his terrified 16-year-old sister Lisa Rene was there alone.\u00a0 They kidnapped the girl, raped her several times on the drive back to Arkansas, then rented a motel room.\u00a0 Over the next two days Rene was repeatedly raped.\u00a0 On September 26, the three criminals took Rene to a wooded area in a nature preserve, stood her next to an open grave with a sheet over her head and hit her with a shovel.\u00a0 When she tried to escape, she was tackled, gagged, and beaten on the head with the shovel by all three men.
