{"id":3300,"date":"2021-03-30T14:31:41","date_gmt":"2021-03-30T21:31:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/?p=3300"},"modified":"2021-03-30T14:44:21","modified_gmt":"2021-03-30T21:44:21","slug":"whos-assaulting-asians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/?p=3300","title":{"rendered":"Who&#8217;s Assaulting Asians?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For at least the last few months a major focus of the national media has been on the increase in assaults on Asians.\u00a0 The narrative, featured <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/03\/18\/politics\/white-supremacy-racism-asian-americans\/index.html\">here<\/a> by CNN, is that white supremacists egged on by President Trump&#8217;s characterization of Covid-19 as the China virus, are engaging in random violent attacks against Asians.\u00a0 Setting aside the fact no credible scientist denies that the virus originated from Wuhan, China, there is little evidence that people randomly attacked Asians after the Hong Kong Flu killed roughly 4 million in 1968, or that Spaniards were set upon after the Spanish Flu killed over 20 million in 1918, what proof does the media offer for its latest narrative regarding attacks on Asians?\u00a0 Damn little.\u00a0 In fact most of the available evidence points in a different direction.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Because 2020 just ended, little hard data exists for that year, meaning there is little support for the media&#8217;s &#8220;white supremacist&#8221; narrative, but there is some empirical evidence.\u00a0 Security cameras.\u00a0 In February CBS News released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/asian-american-hate-crimes-assaults\/\">video<\/a> of two attacks on Asians showing that both of the attackers were African Americans.\u00a0 KPIX <a href=\"https:\/\/sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com\/2020\/03\/02\/san-francisco-district-attorney-withdraw-charges-attack-elderly-recycler\/\">reported<\/a> on the two caught on video attacking an Asian man in San Francisco.\u00a0 Both were African American.\u00a0\u00a0 Finally here&#8217;s a photo of the suspect who knocked an elderly Asian man to the ground in Oakland last February and another of the man (in the pink sportcoat) caught on video knocking down and kicking an Asian woman in Manhattan on March 29th.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3303\" src=\"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Asian2-240x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Asian2-240x300.jpg 240w, https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Asian2-768x961.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Asian2.jpg 793w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3304\" src=\"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Asian3-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"259\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Asian3-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Asian3.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 460px) 100vw, 460px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But these are just a few pictures you might ask.\u00a0 And what about Robert Long,\u00a0 the white man arrested last week for the March 16 murders of eight women in Atlanta massage parlors, including six Asians?\u00a0 The New York times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2021\/03\/17\/us\/shooting-atlanta-acworth\">suggests<\/a> that the shootings might be evidence of anti-Asian bias.\u00a0 The police don&#8217;t think so, determining that Long was acting out against sex workers at the parlors he frequented, where most of the sex workers were Asian.<\/p>\n<p>Hard data doesn&#8217;t support the narrative either.\u00a0 The most recent Crime Victimization Survey from the Bureau of Justice Statistics is for 2018, which means that claimed the anti-Asian bias due to Covid-19 could not have been a factor.\u00a0 But the data tells a story.\u00a0 As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/features\/2020\/12\/race-and-crime-who-attacks-whom\/\">reported<\/a> by Jared Taylor in the American Renaissance,\u00a0 Asians were more than 2 1\/2 times more likely to be attacked by an African American than by a white or Hispanic, while Asians almost never attacked African Americans.\u00a0 But this is not new information.<\/p>\n<p>In 2010 the San Francisco Chronicle, hardly a bastion of conservative thought, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/bayarea\/nevius\/article\/Dirty-secret-of-black-on-Asian-violence-is-out-3265760.php\">reported<\/a> what C.W. Nevius called the &#8220;Dirty Secret of Black on Asian Violence.&#8221;\u00a0 &#8220;San Francisco&#8217;s hidden truth is out. That&#8217;s what community organizer Carol Mo calls the realization that Asian residents are being targeted for robberies, burglaries and intimidation by young black men.&#8221;\u00a0 The article cited a 2008 SFPD survey\u00a0 which found that in 85 percent of the physical assault crimes, the victims were Asian and the perpetrators were African American.<\/p>\n<p>Black on Asian violence is not limited to San Francisco, as the Chronicle piece notes, &#8220;There&#8217;s a deep divide between the two communities.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/search\/?action=search&amp;channel=opinion&amp;inlineLink=1&amp;searchindex=solr&amp;query=%22Edward+Chang%22\">Edward Chang<\/a>, who lectures on civil unrest and race relations at U.C.
