{"id":3538,"date":"2021-04-23T11:42:46","date_gmt":"2021-04-23T18:42:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/?p=3538"},"modified":"2021-04-23T14:44:58","modified_gmt":"2021-04-23T21:44:58","slug":"lets-end-police-traffic-stops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/?p=3538","title":{"rendered":"Let&#8217;s End Police Traffic Stops!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week&#8217;s stupid idea award goes out to New York State Attorney General Letitia James who is calling for an end of police involvement in traffic enforcement.\u00a0 This, of course, is in response to nationally publicized video of Daunte Wright, a black teenager,\u00a0 being accidently shot by a white Minneapolis Police Officer on April 11 as he tried to drive away from a traffic stop.\u00a0 For the galactically ignorant, this incident proves the narrative that white police officers use traffic stops to kill innocent black people.\u00a0 Manhattan Institute scholar Heather MacDonald has this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/anticop-movement-wants-road-anarchy-too-11619132197?mod=opinion_lead_pos5\">piece<\/a> in today&#8217;s Wall Street Journal discussing why this idea wins the award.\u00a0 Instead of having police make traffic stops, &#8220;the thinking goes, unarmed civilian traffic agents and speeding cameras should enforce the rules of the road.&#8221;\u00a0 She notes that Oakland and Berkeley, CA, Lansing, Mich, and DC are already on board. \u00a0 A 2000 study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that &#8220;neighborhoods with the highest rates of fatal accidents also have the highest rates of violent crime.&#8221;
