{"id":3713,"date":"2021-05-12T12:02:43","date_gmt":"2021-05-12T19:02:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/?p=3713"},"modified":"2021-05-12T12:02:43","modified_gmt":"2021-05-12T19:02:43","slug":"is-larry-krasner-in-trouble-in-philadelphia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/?p=3713","title":{"rendered":"Is Larry Krasner in Trouble in Philadelphia?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Larry Krasner is a long-time, ideologically far Left defense attorney who, with the help of oodles of Soros money and a one-party jurisdiction, got himself elected District Attorney of Philadelphia.\u00a0 The city (like many other one-party big cities) has since seen a surge in murder and other violent crime.\u00a0 The victims are disproportionately black (although Krasner campaigned on improving the operation of the criminal justice system for minorities\u00a0 &#8212;\u00a0 raising the question whether getting murdered more often counts as an &#8220;improvement&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p>Just as in other now-bloodsoaked cities with &#8220;progressive&#8221; DA&#8217;s (Los Angeles and San Francisco come most readily to mind), there has been pushback in Philadelphia.\u00a0 Krasner is facing a primary challenge from a former deputy DA in his own office.\u00a0 The challenge recently received a major, and perhaps decisive, boost.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/rendell-endorses-vega-for-philly-da-says-recent-wave-of-shootings-was-the-last-straw\/?fbclid=IwAR2NsZUtEQmOyNdvtGfFyygE_WdCWRdh9AIiHgb7-Pe5l1a1Yvx46xU84oU\">story<\/a>, featuring former national DNC Chair and Bill Clinton pal, Ed Rendell.\u00a0 The headline is, <em>&#8220;Rendell endorses Vega for Philly DA, says recent wave of shootings was \u2018the last straw\u2019.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Ed Rendell, who served as Philadelphia District Attorney, the city\u2019s mayor, and Pennsylvania\u2019s governor, is taking what he calls a \u201creluctant\u201d step into the upcoming DA\u2019s race to endorse former homicide prosecutor Carlos Vega in the Democratic primary over incumbent Larry Krasner.<\/p>\n<p>Rendell said he felt compelled to make the endorsement based on the city\u2019s gun violence epidemic.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/25-people-shot-7-killed-in-philly-over-the-weekend-police-say-lack-of-trust-in-law-enforcement-fueling-the-surge\/\">At least 185 people have been victims of homicides this year so far<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 a number police say is 30% higher than the same period last year. Officials say gun violence was the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.phila.gov\/programs\/injury-prevention-program\/injury-prevention-dashboard\/\">leading cause of death for young Black and Latino men<\/a> in the city in 2020&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>Rendell said he doesn\u2019t usually like to criticize the successors in any of his previous government positions, but this past weekend\u2019s surge of shootings \u2014\u00a025 people were shot, seven were killed \u2014 was \u201cthe final straw.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s not a bad man,\u201d Rendell said of Krasner, and noted he\u2019d happily support him if this were a race for Congress or the state Senate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut it\u2019s not,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s an election for district attorney. And in the almost three and a half years he\u2019s spent as district attorney, he\u2019s clearly demonstrated that he simply doesn\u2019t understand or won\u2019t recognize that the first and most important part of a DA\u2019s job is to protect people in this city from violent, brutal crime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rendell has a long history with Vega.
