That\u2019s the message sent by this month\u2019s national I&amp;I\/TIPP Poll.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So <a href=\"https:\/\/tippinsights.com\/i-i-tipp-poll-americans-see-many-threats-but-violent-crime-is-no-1\/\">reports <\/a>Terry Jones for Issues and Insights.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The I&amp;I\/TIPP poll asked people \u201cWhich of the following is the biggest threat to the country,\u201d followed by nine possible answers. Among the possible \u201cbiggest threats,\u201d just four were able to break into double-digits: The aforementioned issue of \u201cviolent crime\u201d (17%), \u201cright-wing terrorists\u201d (14%), \u201cChina\u201d (13%), and \u201crising inflation\u201d (12%).<\/p>\n<p>The graph below shows an interesting breakout of perceived threats by party:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/ThreatTIPPAug2021.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-4476 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/ThreatTIPPAug2021-300x225.png\" alt=\"Graph of Perceived Threats by Party\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/ThreatTIPPAug2021-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/ThreatTIPPAug2021-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/ThreatTIPPAug2021.png 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is an X-Y graph with the percentage of Republicans citing a listed threat as number one on the X axis and the percentage of Democrats doing the same on the Y axis. A point close to the 45-degree line indicates similar percentages across party lines, while a point far off the line has sharp partisan differences. Click on the graph for a larger view.<\/p>\n<p>Among issues with little partisan divide, violent crime is cited most often by a considerable margin with rising inflation second. China is often cited by Republicans but much less often by Democrats.
