Resignations and retirements at the largest police agencies in the United States are skyrocketing while recruitment is tanking.&#8221;\u00a0 The study compiled data from police agencies in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Austin, Las Vegas, Chicago, San Jose, Los Angeles County, Washington DC, San Francisco, and Miami-Dade from June 1, 2020 to April 30, 2021.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The exodus amounted to over 18% of officers in the ten departments but the numbers in some locations were much higher.\u00a0 Cleveland saw a 130% increase in retirements while officers resigning in Austin jumped 63%.\u00a0 Austin is currently short 300 officers at the same time it has suffered a 56% increase in homicides.\u00a0 Chicago has lost 1,000 officers compared to a couple of years ago according to Alderman Mat O&#8217;Shea, a democrat.<\/p>\n<p>With fewer officers on the street and de-policing demands accompanying the George Floyd protests, arrests dropped sharply last year.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.policedefense.org\/less-policing-more-murders\/\">Data<\/a> from LELDF indicates a correlation with the drop in arrests and the historic spike in urban homicides.<\/p>\n<p>In essence, Black Lives Matter and progressive politicians got what they asked for.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A study by the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund (LELDF) reports that police officers in ten large urban police departments are retiring or resigning at unprecedented levels. \u00a0 A story by Fox News reporter Peter Aitken quotes LELDF President Jason Johnson, &#8220;In the wake of the anti-police movement and Floyd protests, cops &#8212;unwanted and unappreciated by their political leaders &#8212;are running for the exits.
