{"id":4833,"date":"2021-10-25T10:29:50","date_gmt":"2021-10-25T17:29:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/?p=4833"},"modified":"2021-10-26T15:06:44","modified_gmt":"2021-10-26T22:06:44","slug":"milestone-met-in-sf-recall-of-chesa-boudin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/?p=4833","title":{"rendered":"Milestone Met in SF Recall of Chesa Boudin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pigs were seen flying over San Francisco last weekend as the campaign to recall uber-progressive District Attorney Chesa Boudin turned in 83,487 signatures to county officials last Friday.\u00a0 Evan Symon of the California Globe <a href=\"https:\/\/californiaglobe.com\/articles\/recall-effort-against-sf-district-attorney-chesa-boudin-turns-in-83487-signatures-likely-enough-to-trigger-recall-election\/\">reports<\/a> that 51,325 signatures are required to put the recall on the ballot, which leaders of the Safer SF Without Boudin say is now nearly a certainty.\u00a0 &#8220;It says a lot about the anger and the fear that San Franciscans have about what&#8217;s going on in the community,&#8221; said the Co-chairwoman of the group.\u00a0 Boudin&#8217;s tenure as District Attorney has been marked by skyrocketing crime, including shootings, while his office has chosen not to prosecute thousands of offenders arrested for theft, drugs, assault and burglary.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Defenders of Boudin claim that the recall defies the will of the voters who elected him in 2019.\u00a0 In a puzzling statement to reporters state Senator Mark Leno said, &#8220;this is recall madness and we have to stop it or this just the new way of life and truth doesn&#8217;t stand in the way, respect for the voters.&#8221; Leno a San Francisco democrat has a consistent record of authoring and supporting pro-criminal legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Even in San Francisco, perhaps the most woke city in America, there may actually be a limit to the public&#8217;s tolerance and compassion for criminals.\u00a0 On a related note, Walgreens is <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/10\/12\/walgreens-closes-five-more-san-francisco-locations-due-to-theft\/\">closing<\/a> five more of its bay area drugstores due to out-of-control theft.\u00a0 This is on top of the company closing seventeen stores in San Francisco over the past three years for the same reason.\u00a0\u00a0 As <a href=\"https:\/\/californiaglobe.com\/local\/san-francisco\/exclusive-iconic-target-store-in-mission-district-to-close-amid-a-shoplifting-tidal-wave\/\">reported<\/a> by the Globe&#8217;s Ken Kurson,\u00a0 &#8220;Mayor London Breed challenged that narrative. She attributed the closings to demographic shifts which the San Francisco Chronicle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/sf\/article\/Is-shoplifting-forcing-Walgreens-to-cut-back-in-16536960.php\">dutifully reported<\/a> that \u201cthe five stores slated to close had fewer than two recorded shoplifting incidents a month on average since 2018\u201d (while acknowledging that few stores bother to report a crime that now routinely goes unpunished).
