Wade, pro-abortion activists have decided it would be a good idea to flock en masse outside the <em>neighborhood<\/em> <em>homes<\/em> of the Justices to make sure they know that, if the &#8220;wrong&#8221; decision were handed come late June, they would, in Chuck Schmer&#8217;s words, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/opinion\/todaysdebate\/2020\/03\/05\/chuck-schumer-threatening-rhetoric-gorsuch-kavanaugh-crosses-line-editorials-debates\/4964578002\/\">&#8220;pay the price.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gathering in menacing mobs at the homes of Justices has been defended by exactly those people who, for four years, were loudly aghast at the &#8220;breaking of norms.&#8221;\u00a0 But as it turns out, the mob activity is not merely disgusting but illegal\u00a0 &#8212;\u00a0 or at least such is the view of that right-wing rag, the Washington Post.\u00a0 Its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/05\/11\/protest-justice-home-illegal\/?utm_campaign=wp_the_5_minute_fix&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=newsletter&amp;wpisrc=nl_fix&amp;carta-url=https%3A%2F%2Fs2.washingtonpost.com%2Fcar-ln-tr%2F36d0720%2F627c242d956121755a735bb4%2F5fe92a9eade4e21670c7e443%2F24%2F54%2F627c242d956121755a735bb4\">article<\/a> is quoted in part below.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>As the Post puts\u00a0 it:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[T]he comparison between protesting a politician at home and a member of the judiciary at home is inexact. And experts say the latter category of protests is probably illegal regardless of how peaceful the demonstrations are.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\" data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\">At issue is a statute enacted in 1950:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/18\/1507\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Title 18, Section 1507, of the U.S. Code<\/a>. The law states that it is illegal, \u201cwith the intent of influencing any judge,\u201d to:<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<ul class=\"font--article-body font-copy gray-darkest mt-0 mr-lg ml-lg mb-md list\">\n<li class=\"pb-xs\">\n<blockquote><p>picket or parade \u201cin or near a building or residence occupied or used by such judge, juror, witness, or court officer\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xs\">\n<blockquote><p>\u201cor with such intent,\u201d to resort \u201cto any other demonstration in or near any such building or residence\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\" data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\">Tabatha Abu El-Haj, an expert on protest rights at Drexel University\u2019s law school, said that the current protests at justices\u2019 homes qualify under the statute and that the statute, if tested, would probably be found constitutional.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\">**********************************<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\" data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\">In 1988\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/supreme.justia.com\/cases\/federal\/us\/487\/474\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>Frisby v. Schultz<\/i><\/a>, the court upheld a local Wisconsin law that banned protesting targeted at a specific home, as long as protesters were allowed to march through a neighborhood.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\" data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\">Two decades earlier, in 1965, the court upheld a Louisiana law that echoed the federal law\u2019s prohibition on picketing at a court. The laws were enacted amid an outcry over\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TomDreisbach\/status\/1524085556363161602\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">allies of Communist Party defendants picketing federal courthouses<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\u201cA State may adopt safeguards necessary and appropriate to assure that the administration of justice at all stages is free from outside control and influence,\u201d the court ruled in <a href=\"https:\/\/supreme.justia.com\/cases\/federal\/us\/379\/536\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>Cox v.
