A century and a third after his suicide, Vincent Van Gogh still can’t catch a break. The WSJ reports<\/a> that protesters threw tomato soup on Van Gogh’s Sunflowers in London’s National Gallery. Cue Don McLean<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The protest ostensibly had something to climate change and oil drilling. What did Van Gogh have to do with that? Was he the founder of Shell Oil Company? Did he make millions despoiling the environment? Did he initiate processes that eventually led to climate change? None of the above<\/a>.<\/p>\n

So why attempt to ruin one of Van Gogh’s best known paintings? (Unsuccessfully, fortunately.) By what tortured logic do these people think that a senseless, pointless act of destruction will help their cause?<\/p>\n
