{"id":9274,"date":"2023-07-12T10:54:13","date_gmt":"2023-07-12T17:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/?p=9274"},"modified":"2023-07-12T11:04:10","modified_gmt":"2023-07-12T18:04:10","slug":"manson-family-murderer-released-from-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crimeandconsequences.blog\/?p=9274","title":{"rendered":"Manson Family Murderer Released From Prison"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Leslie Van Houten, one of the Manson family cult members convicted of murdering a Los Angeles couple in 1969, was released from prison yesterday.\u00a0 The LA Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2023-07-11\/manson-family-member-leslie-van-houten-released-from-prison\">reports<\/a> that, like previous governors, Gavin Newsom had rejected the state parole board&#8217;s recommendation that Van Houten be released, but earlier this year a divided State Court of Appeal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courts.ca.gov\/opinions\/documents\/B320098.PDF\">overruled<\/a> the Governor, who chose not to appeal that ruling to the state Supreme Court.\u00a0\u00a0 The day after cult leader Charles Manson ordered the brutal murders of actress Sharon Tate and four others in her Benedict Canyon home, Manson accompanied Van Houten and five other cult members to the home of Los Feliz couple Leno and Rosemary La Bianca.\u00a0 After Manson had tied the couple up and put pillowcases over their heads, cult member Tex Watson stabbed Lino to death.\u00a0 Watson then ordered Van Houten and Patricia Krenwinkel to hold down Rosemary.\u00a0 Watson stabbed her several times, then gave the knife to Van Houten, who stabbed the woman at least fourteen times.\u00a0 The women then wrote &#8220;death to pigs&#8221; on the wall and &#8220;healter skelter&#8221; on the refrigerator door with Leno&#8217;s blood.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>All of the murderers, including Manson, were convicted and sentenced to death in 1971, but a year later the California Supreme Court&#8217;s 6-1 ruling\u00a0 in <a href=\"https:\/\/scocal.stanford.edu\/opinion\/people-v-anderson-22750\">People v.
