The post cites <a href=\"https:\/\/wtop.com\/dc\/2023\/10\/police-cast-light-on-their-efforts-to-curb-car-jacking\/\">this report<\/a> from WTOP on October 3, reporting that as of that date there had been 750 carjackings in 2023, 75% of them involving guns. Nearly two-thirds of the persons arrested for carjacking to that date were juveniles.<\/p>\n<p>Why do so many DC juveniles commit this violent crime?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Bissainthe posits that the primary reason is the lack of consequences.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This happening because teenage carjackers know that even if they are caught, they will be treated very leniently. In 2021, two teenage girls aged 13 and 15 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-9437615\/Two-teenage-girls-accused-car-jacking-killing-Uber-Eats-driver-reach-plea-deal.html\">carjacked and killed<\/a> an Uber Eats Driver in Washington, DC, a crime for which they received <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-9437615\/Two-teenage-girls-accused-car-jacking-killing-Uber-Eats-driver-reach-plea-deal.html\">only juvenile<\/a> detention, not prison.
