Soros-Bankrolled DA Facing Recall

A campaign  to recall progressive Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price has generated over 15,000 signatures toward a goal of 25,000 as reported by Rachel Schilke of the Washington Examiner.  Price, who assumed office in January, has implemented multiple progressive policies aimed to reduce sentences and substitute “healing” and programs for jail or prison sentences.  She has also fired 20 prosecutors and placed six others on administrative leave.  She sparked a backlash in March when her office offered a plea bargain to give accused murderer Delonzo Logwood a 15-year sentence for killing three people in a murder-for-hire scheme.   The judge in the case rejected the deal stating that Price provided no explanation for offering such a deal.  In most other CA counties a triple-murderer could receive a death sentence or life-without-the-possibility-of-parole.  Logwood’s trial begins this month.

Price ran on, and is now enforcing her objective of racilizing every decision her office makes.  This became a serious problem when one of her prosecution decisions angered the county’s large Asian community.  In 2021 a 2-year-old Asian boy named Jasper Wu was killed by a stray bullet from a gang shootout while riding with his parents on an Oakland freeway.  Price’s predecessor promised to throw the book at the three gang members arrested for the murder, but after she assumed office Price announced that her office will seek “non-carceral forms of accountability.”  This means no jail or prison for the murderers.  Price’s office also notified “Chinese communities,” that her goal is to “root out racism in our criminal justice system.”  From news accounts about the defendants in the Wu case, it appears that all three gang members are black.  While Price may be unaware that in the overwhelming majority of attacks on Asians the assailants are black, the Asian community is very aware of this fact.  Last week, hundreds of protesters gathered at the Alameda County Courthouse to demand “Justice for Jasper.”

Price’s response to this was, wait for it….to claim her critics are racists.  “This particular tragedy is being used by people with a political agenda to divide our diverse community.  The kind of racists messages directed at me personally has been unprecedented.”

On of the protesters, Michael Nguyen, told reporters, “There was nothing being divided.  Look at the protests and who the protesters are. There are a lot of Asians, yes, but there were a lot of white people, black people, and Latinos there. This isn’t a racial issue or an issue about division.  It’s about justice, not social justice. It’s about three gang members who fired on each other, who killed an innocent child in the process, who should get as much jail time as possible,” he continued.

Price is also targeting Bay Area ABC 7 News, which has been objectively covering the Wu case and the protests, as the “anti-Price media.”  Her supporters accused the station of backing “policies that result in mass incarceration of black, brown and low-income people.”

Community members responded that they are not looking to pursue politics or make the situation a racial issue–they are just looking for Price to do her job.

Price’s campaign for District Attorney received large contributions from the dubiously-named California Justice and Public Safety PAC,  which is primarily funded by progressive hedge fund billionaire George Soros.  In reality he and his heavily-financed front groups vigorously oppose justice and public safety.
