New York’s Sanctuary for Illegal Alien Criminals
The impact of New York City’s Sanctuary City and soft-on-crime policies have created an environment where citizens are being repeatedly victimized by the same criminals who should not even be in the country. 29-year-old Daniel Hernandez Martinez, an illegal who arrived in the Big Apple from Venezuela two months ago is a case in point. Tina Moore of the New York Post reports that Martinez has been arrested five times for thefts and assaults with an additional arrest for theft in Brooklyn. “He’s been wreaking havoc,” a cop with more than 20 years on the job said. “This is not an isolated incident. These migrants are getting arrested quite often here, and we really don’t know who they are. They really don’t have ID. They’re not being vetted properly, but some of them are committing some of the most violent crimes here.”
The day after Martinez arrived he was arrested for shoplifting at a Brooklyn Costco. He was charged with petty larceny and released. The following week he hit pharmacy in Manhattan, stealing a tool kit. A day later he was caught stealing in another pharmacy and pulled a knife on a security guard. He was charged with menacing and released without bail. Three days later Martinez used a bicycle tire for an unprovoked attack on a reporter walking in Times Square. He was later arrested and released. On August 21, Martinez grabbed a woman by the hair in Midtown and dragged her across a room then kicked her and smashed her phone. He was charged with menacing, assault, criminal mischief and weapons possession and released. Three days later he was arrested for threatening a man with a chain and released without bail. The following week Martinez was caught breaking bicycle locks with a metal pipe in Times Square. This time he said that he needed medical attention and was taken to a Hospital, where he proceeded to attack a police officer.
Under New York law assault on a police officer requires bail. In light of his multiple arrests, the deputy DA asked for $10,000 bail and the judge reduced this to $5,000. Fortunately Martinez was unable to post bail so he is currently at Rikers Island awaiting trial.
If he had not attacked the cop, Martinez would be back on the street looking for his next victim.
