A Voice of Reason on Defunding the Police
Who would you guess said, in response to a question on defunding the police, “to take all policing off is something a latte liberal may go for as they sit around the Hamptons discussing this as an academic problem. But people living on the ground need proper policing.”
It was Al Sharpton, in an interview on Morning Joe. See this report on Fox News.
Sharpton has made a career built on saying outrageous and sometime hateful things, but on this point he is a voice of reason. See this post, where I noted polling data supporting this view.
In contrast, there is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who leaves no doubt that “defunding the police means defunding the police,” i.e. zeroing out the police budget and abolishing the police department.
In a political party that has not lost its collective mind, a person who supports such a patently disastrous and irresponsible move would be a pariah. “AOC” got a prime speaking slot at the Democratic National Convention.
