Decision Pending in California Credits Case

On Monday, the Sacramento Superior Court held a hearing in the challenge to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s scheme to lighten its load by handing out sentence-reducing credits like Halloween candy. The scheme and its origins are explained in this post.

There have been many delays, but we finally got to a hearing on the merits last month. At that time, Judge Jennifer Rockwell decided to order supplemental briefing and a second hearing. That was Monday’s hearing. She took the case under advisement and will issue a written decision. We do not know precisely when.

The case is Criminal Justice Legal Foundation et al. v. California Dept. of Corrections and Rehabilitation et al., No. 34-2022-80003807.
