U.S. Supreme Court Takes Up Retaliatory Arrest Case

The U.S. Supreme Court today took up the case of Gonzales v. Trevino, No. 22-1025, regarding the requirements of proof for a claim of retaliatory arrest.

The facts are rather complicated. Ms. Gonzales was a member of the City Council of Castle Hills, Texas, who was arrested for an incident at a council meeting. She claims that her arrest for a trivial and inadvertent misplacement of a document was engineered by her political opponents, invoking a law never before used for that purpose.

Castle Hills is in Bexar County, the San Antonio area.
