SCOTUS January Oral Arguments

The U.S. Supreme Court has released its calendar for oral arguments in January.

There are no criminal cases on the docket or even civil cases with strong connections to law enforcement.

Pham v. Chavez, No. 19-897, on Monday, January 11, is an immigration case related to reentry after deportation, which is a crime.

Uzuegbunam v. Preczewski, No. 19-968, on Tuesday, January 12, might be listening to for the questions of (1) whether a nominal damages claim keeps a civil rights case alive after the defendant has changed the policy that the plaintiff wanted changed, and (2) how to pronounce the parties’ names.

No arguments are scheduled for Wednesday, January 20. I expect a couple of Justices will be busy across the street.
